Week by week view:

Term 1

*Term 1 Practical Module requires a minimum of 400 hours. 

*Regular study weeks comprise of 2-day in-class Practical Module sessions delivered on Mondays & Tuesdays from 10 am – 4.30pm (approx). Students are expected to do an additional minimum of 15 hours of independent study during Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays in order to fulfil weekly assignments & associated module readings. 

*Intensive weeks comprise of 5-day in-class Practical Module sessions delivered on Mondays through Fridays from 10 am – 5.30pm (approx)

*Reading Weeks are typically comprised of independent study, however occasionally you will be required to attend an in-class seminar or tutorial

*Each Terms Theory Module requires a minimum of 200 hours. There are 9 scheduled 2-hour seminars as well as some sessions during intensive weeks. You will each receive a 30 min face to face tutorial to support you with writing you papers.Students are expected to do a minimum of 11 hours of independent study during Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays in order to fulfill associated module readings. 

*Optional video journalism/documentary screenings will be held in class some Mondays from around 5.30-7.30pm 

WK 1 – Sep 11 – Sep 15: Pre-Reading Week (No in-class sessions, independent study. You will be sent a link via email with some readings/viewings to prepare for week 2)

WK 2 – Sep 20: Introduction Day (1-day in-class session on Sep 20, 10am-3pm – followed by an optional coffee on campus to meet and greet)

WK 3 – Sep 25 – 29: Photography (Regular Study Week)

WK 4 – Oct 2 – 6: Text (Regular Study Week)

WK 5 – Oct 9 – 13: Audio (Regular Study Week)

WK 6 – Oct 16 – 20: Intensive 1.1 (FULL WEEK IN CLASS SESSIONS 10am – 5.30pm)

WK 7 – Oct 23 – 27: Basic Video (Regular Study Week)

WK 8 – Oct 30 – Nov 3: Infographics (Regular Study Week)

WK 9 – Nov 6 – 10: Multimedia Storytelling (Regular Study Week)

WK 10 – Nov 13 – 17: Reading Week for Theory paper 1 (No in-class sessions, independent study)

WK 11 – Nov 20 – 24: Advanced Video (Regular Study Week)

WK 12 – Nov 27 – Dec 1: Intensive 1.2 (FULL WEEK IN CLASS SESSIONS 10am – 5.30pm)

WK 13 – Dec 4 – 8: Reading Week & Theory Paper Seminar (1-day in-class session on Dec 4 for Theory Seminar & Individual Theory Paper Tutorials)

WK 14 – Dec 11 – 15: Reading Week & Writing Theory papers (No in-class sessions, WeChat tutorials on request) 

WK 15 – Dec 18 – 22: Reading Week & Writing Theory papers (No in-class sessions)

Christmas / New Year Holidays

WK 16 – Jan 2 – 6: Social media (Regular Study Week – please note, instead of the regular Monday & Tuesday class will be held on Friday & Saturday due to the holiday. You’ll need to prepare for your assignments in advance)

Term 2

*Term 2 Practical Module requires a minimum of 400 hours. 

*Regular study weeks comprise of 2-day in-class Practical Module sessions delivered on Mondays & Tuesdays from 10 am – 4.30pm (approx). Students are expected to do an additional minimum of 15 hours of independent study during Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays in order to fulfil weekly assignments & associated module readings. 

*Project weeks are comprised of independent study, students are expected to spend a minimum of 25 hours each week on their practical project, with a minimum total for each project of 48-hours (6-full days) spent ‘in the field’ – reporting, filming, photographing and interviewing. Occasionally you will also be required to attend an in-class critique or tutorial

*Intensive weeks comprise of 5-day in-class Practical Module sessions delivered on Mondays through Fridays from 10 am – 5.30pm (approx)

*Reading Weeks are typically comprised of independent study, however occasionally you will be required to attend an in-class seminar or tutorial

*Term 2 Theory Module requires a minimum of 200 hours. Schedule TBA

WK 16 – May 14 – 18: Reading Week & Editing Week (Tutors will be on hand for some in-class sessions this week to assist with final editing TBC)

Term 3

*Term 3 Practical Module requires a minimum of 400 hours. 

*Project weeks are comprised of independent study, students are expected to spend a minimum of 25 hours each week on their practical project, with a minimum total of 160-hours (20-full days) spent ‘in the field’ – reporting, filming, photographing and interviewing. You will also to upload drafts of edited work each and every 2 weeks for tutorial feedback. You will sometimes also be required to attend in-class or online individual tutorials.

*Edit weeks are comprised of independent study, students are expected to spend a minimum of 25 hours each week editing their practical project. You will need to spend edit weeks in Beijing and spend a few days a week in class where tutors will be available to support your editing process. You will also be required to prepare and attend in-class presentations and critiques Dates TBC

*Term 3 Theory Module requires a minimum of 200 hours. Schedule TBA
